Using a saturable absorber mirror (SAM), a self-starting, passively mode-locked diode pumped laser with a very stable pulse repetition rate can be realized. SAMs for solid state and fiber lasers in a wide spectral region from 800 nm up to 3 µm wavelength are available. Also Q-switched mircochip lasers can be realized using a SAM as nonlinear optical device. |
